1. La Grave, France

La Grave is one of the most beautiful villages in France. It is located about 40 kms NW of Briancon high on the mountains. Apart from that, it is one of the most popular ski resorts attracting huge number of skiers. However, this location is only for the very experienced skiers as there is a very high risk of avalanches in this area. There is a tram and lift to go up from the village which is known as one of the best runs of Europe. There is a vertical drop of more than 2000 meter.

A glaciated peek dominates this 12th-century village made of stone cottages. Village attracts serious adventure addicts who have no-limits for skiing in these amazing surroundings.

Important thing to note are that there is no ski patrol and also no trail maps are available. It is absolute backcountry. Avalanche transceiver and ice picks are the most important accessories skiers should carry. Mountain guide is highly recommended.

2. Berguen, Switzerland

It is situated in a very beautiful postcard-perfect place which is around 2 hours drive from Zurich. The Ski resort has a 30km of downhill skiing. There are 7 individual ski run by 5 ski lifts. The 5 Ski Lifts is efficient to lift 2,400 skiers or snowboarders per hour. There are 2 airports nearby which served this area. The village is near the Albula Pass, this mountain road remain closed to vehicle traffic in winter but open for sleds. The sleds are open during night as well.

3. Les Gets, France

Les Gets is a very beautiful village which once was the farming village but now turns in to a ski town. It is located in the heart of the Portes du Soleil. It has hundreds of miles of ski areas and over dozen resorts extended from Switzerland’s Lake Geneva areas to Mont Blanc. Visitors can also go for snowshoeing in to the pines.

4. Sainte-Foy Tarentaise, France

It is located near the Italian border and very well known for its un crowded ski area. It takes only 30 minutes by car from Val d’Isere, Tignes and les Arcs. It is one of the most affordable ski areas in the region. There is a free shuttle bus which runs between the main village and the hamlet of La Thuile to the ski resort.

One of the good things about this ski resort is that the Sainte-Foy Station has a shorter lift lines and also the long lasting powder.

5. Les Diablerets, Switzerland

Les Diablerets is situated between the Lake Geneva and Gstaad in Switzerland. It is a beautiful Swiss village with the construction of wooden chalets and red-and-white flags waving around. There are over 77 miles of ski runs here and fresh powder on the ski runs during the late spring months is very common in this ski resort. Other activities sledge runs, winter walks, heli skiing and mountain spirit.
