Living in a Beautiful Ice Hotels


Have you ever imagined living under the ice? And if you feel it exciting to live in the ice caves, do not worry, not only Eskimos lives in the ice caves but there is a provision for the common man living in their too. There are ice hotels to get the complete feel of the igloos. The concept of the ice hotels and resort has been started in the year 1980. These are actually luxurious igloos with a complete resort made entirely of ice.

Here are the list of world famous ice hotels and resorts which you can plan to visit in your lifetime:

Jukkasjärvi, Sweden

It is located in the village of Jukkasjärvi which is 125 miles north of the Arctic Circle in Sweden. The first ice hotel here was built in the year 1980. It was at first made as a seasonal structure for the art exhibition. However, the organizers of the exhibition get this idea of ice hotels and develop the place in to hotels thereafter.

A temperature inside is chilly, however despite of the temperature outside the inner temperature remains in between 17 to 23 degrees Fahrenheit. Beds are made up of a blocks of ice, covered with fur, hides, skin, and sleeping bags. In the lobby, there is couch of an ice, an ice bar. The only heated room here is the bathroom which is outside.


Glace, Quebec

The idea of this ice hotel comes from the original and first ice hotel of Jukkasjärvi. The Glace Ice hotel is located on the suburbs of Quebec. Although it is almost based on the ice hotel

Jukkasjärvi, little addition to this hotels are the framed paintings on the ice walls, and more sophisticated ice furniture and bar.

This hotel comprises of 34 rooms. It is made every year in the fall and melts by its own by the end of the winter months. As it is made new every year, there is always something different like new style bed and bar. The hotel seasons runs from mid-November to March.


Aurora Ice Museum; Chena Hot Springs, Alaska

The Aurora Ice Museum is situated in Chena Hot Springs Resort which is around 60 miles northeast of Fairbanks, Alaska. It is the only ice hotel in U.S. and is carved by the Ice-carving champion Steve Brice.

Like all other ice hotels, beds, furniture, counters, are all made of ice. The most amazing part of this hotel is its beautiful ice sculptures. Every year they change the artwork. You can see aurora borealis on calm clear night.


Alta Igloo Hotel, Alta, Norway

The Alta Igloo Hotel in located in the northeast corner of Norway. The rooms in this hotels has very low ceilings which will make you feel little claustrophobic. However, the experience is beyond imagination.

There are 80 beds; hotel also offers suites, ice bar, an ice gallery, an ice chapel and quite a few lounges. There is service building which offers a luggage room, toilets, sauna, and showers to the guests.
